On the 26th of April we had some very interesting visitors to our lesson. We have been researching Reptiles and Arachnids in order to create Animal Fact Files suitable for 7-10 year olds. As part of our project Mr Upward encouraged us to book a visit from a company called Snakes Alive.
This was a really enjoyable learning experience as we developed many skills ranging from making a formal online booking to extending literacy skills such as writing for a specific target audience, identifying and summarising facts and presenting information.
Please see the letters circulated today to announce some big news:
On Tuesday 16th May approximately 55 selected students from years 7-10 took part in an African Drumming workshop delivered by Dan Sceats from Essex Music Service. For students already taking GCSE music and those who have opted to take it next year, this workshop was important as African music is a unit they have to study for their exam. They will be able to transfer the knowledge and skills learnt during the workshop to their studies in the classroom. For other students, attending the workshop was a reward for their consistently hard work and positive attitude during music lessons this year.
Public examinations for Years 11, 12 and 13 are now underway. As you will already be aware these can be anxious and stressful times for both the students and you as parents/carers! In addition to information already issued at our curriculum events parents may find either of the two leaflets below.
The first information leaflet is a series of tips to support your son/daughter during the exam period based around the following key points:
The second leaflet is a booklet of recipes. Using the advanced nutritional information from team GB at the RIO Olympics we are pleased to share a simple set of recipes that are all guaranteed to ensure those that eat them have the power, stamina and energy to perform to their best ability over the coming exam season.
Bromfords Raising and Giving Week has raised an amazing £535.17!
Events hosted throughout this week have included a cake sale; a secret cinema club; staff dodge ball competition; sponsored staff leg waxing and Bromfords Got Talent competition.
Miss Cullen, along with the Student Executive Committee who organised the RAG week said staff, students and parents have generously donated and made the event a real success.
All proceeds are being split between Cancer Research UK; SANE (mental health charity); The National Autistic Society; St Luke’s Hospice and Comic Relief.
In partnership with the West Ham United Foundation we are pleased to announce that as of September 2017 our Sixth Form College will be running a football academy. We intend to have two squads, one male and one female with players aged 16-18. Academy players will follow one of our post-16 pathways for their education and receive their football training from West Ham affiliated coaches. Both squads will compete in leagues appropriate to their age group. This is a fantastic way of continuing an education whilst improving football skills and fitness.
Please see the flyer for further details and dates of upcoming trials.
